SMART, SUSTAINABLE SAVINGS
So what exactly is "Smar Sustainable Savings"?
Over the last 15 years, consumers are buying MORE items but using them LESS. We have seen that more items are being sold, but hose items are actually being worn LESS. Sometimes items are worn as few as seven to ten times before they are discaded. As reported by the Ellen Macarther Foundation's report " A NEW TEXTILES ECONOMY: REDESIGNING FASHIONS FUTURE" - "The latter rise (doubling of production volume) is mainly due to the 'fast fashion' phenomenon, with quicker turnaround of new styles, increased number of collections offered per year, and - often - lower prices."
While we LOVE low prices, we have to wonder what all of this is doing to our world? A shortened, simplified answer is that we are using more non-renewable resources to produce clothing that is being used for a shorter amount of time.
This same report states, "Globally, customers miss out on $460 billion dollars of value each year by throwing away clothes that they could continue to wear." THAT is a LOT of clothing AND a lot of money! And that's what we want to change.
